This new Book Club is for people who are interested in lively discussion with a diverse age group of participants. It will also incorporate projects related to increasing literacy resources to vulnerable people. Anyone 16 years old and up is encouraged to participate. Registration is required for this free program. April 29: Normal People by Sally Rooney A strange and indelible connection follows two high school teenagers for years. The two, yet muddled by secrecy and subtleties of class, are irresistibly drawn back together every time. As we explore the complex entanglements of family, friendship, and love, we discuss whether anything can be permanent. May 27: The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish The interwoven tale of two intellectual women: Ester Velasquez who scribes for a blind rabbi in London of 1660s; and Helen Watt, an ailing historian with great passion for Jewish history. Helen embarks on her last project to uncover the identity of a mysterious writer writing under a pseudonym, thus following Ester's journey--an ambitious female intellect in plagued London City-- for wisdom and sacrifices. June 24: Persuasion by Jane Austen Anne Elliot, daughter of the snobbish Sir Walter Elliot, has once been engaged to, then persuaded to give up captain Wentworth due to his lack of fortune. Eight years later, Wentworth returns to the neighborhood as a rich, unwed man, but unforgiving. Persuasion is widely regarded as the most moving of Jane Austen's novels and also the last completed.
