This new Book Club is for people who are interested in lively discussion with a diverse age group of participants. It will also incorporate projects related to increasing literacy resources to vulnerable people. Anyone 16 years old and up is encouraged to participate. Registration is required for this free program. Book list: Jan 28: The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish The interwoven tale of two intellectual women: Ester Velasquez who scribes for a blind rabbi in London of 1660s; and Helen Watt, an ailing historian with great passion for Jewish history. Helen embarks on her last project to uncover the identity of a mysterious writer writing under a pseudonym, thus following Ester's journey--an ambitious female intellect in plagued London City-- for wisdom and sacrifices. Feb 25: Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro Klara, an Artificial Friend (a humanoid machine for kids), observes the bustling street in front of her store, hoping a customer will soon choose her. When she is finally rewarded with the opportunity to accompany an ill 14-year-old girl, Klara begins to question human nature and love. Mar 25: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald An exquisitely crafted tale of Jay Gatsby and his pursuit of his lover, Daisy Buchanan during the Jazz Age in America. Despite it being a must-read classic and an icon for lavish parties and undying love, we'd like to talk about related controversies and discuss the characters in more detail from various perspectives of our members.
